(steve) we managed to navigate the city with the help of Peter and
Carolyn Bell and make great progress towards the home furnishings. We
got all of the appliances except the stove and pretty much everything
for the kitchen. We got all 12 of the bunk mattresses and 2 of the 6 bunk bed frames and
ordered the other 4 that we can pick up next week. Its a 4 hour drive
one way back to Guatemala city, but I have a feeling I'll be getting
familiar with that drive. We filled up a 15 passenger van full of
'stuff'. It's amazing how much it takes when furnishing a home for 14
people from nothing. Just grab a cart and go down isles grabbing. I
think we had 6 carts at Walmart (which really isn't walmart). We were pretty tired after all that, so we just came back to the Barcelo hotel, hit the pool for a bit and grabbed dinner. The plan now is to head to the house of hope in the morning and unload and meet the campus kids and staff. Tomorrow is Eduardo Bells 14th birthday so hopefully we can sneak in a piece of cake. Saturday is all campus work day from 10-12, looking forward to that. Then we will probably attempt to go into the local store/market in Zacapa and do a little grocery shopping and maybe track down a stove. Easter Sunday will be a day of joy for sure. Starting with a 6am sunrise service then a campus luncheon and probably a soccer match then regular Sunday evening service. Sounds like a great day! We are planning to buy all the furniture in Porto Barios (sp?) some time the week after next. I've never been there, but I know it's a long drive. Until then, I guess we'll sit on our beds (I can deal with that). Hopefully we'll have all the necessities in place by the time Jeanas mom (Linda) comes on the 18th so they can work their magic and do some decorating and make it feel homie. We already worked our kids into the music classes for guitar (wil), Piano (sarah, Wade, James) and drums (Wade...maybe me ;)) and we put the word out that we are in the market for a spanish tutor to eat dinner with us a couple nights a week. Starting Monday, we will try to jump into some kind of routine. I expect the days to be full. There are so many projects going on and so much to do. We will likely work in the mornings before it gets too hot then do our schooling in the afternoons. But we'll be flexible-when in Guatemala, do what the Guatemalans do? It's time to hit the rack. Adios amigos.
