About Me

My photo
Dear friends, We began this blog in the summer of 2012 when our family was called to step "out" of our "normal" life as we lived it in Carrollton Texas and serve for 3 months at Housesofhope.org orphanage in Zacapa, Guatemala. A simple blog for our friends and family to stay in touch during our short journey. Since that season we have decided we will use this as a means to continue to log our journey, share our stories and create a platform to champion what inspires us. We hope you enjoy and pray that you are encouraged into action and deeper reflection on family and faith.

Linda's first post

(From Linda)
Hola compadres and familias,
I finally made it to Zacapa and it's everything they told me it would be...HOT!!!!!  The trip down here was uneventful for my first trip out of the country (alone).  Wish I had known it would be that easy, my anxiety level would not have been through the roof.  The flight down took a little less than 3 hours to Guatemala City and the drive from GC to Zacapa took 3 hours.  The van-ride to Zacapa was the second most death-defying trip of my life; overshadowed only by the trip to Hanna during my trip to Maui.  It was three hours of mountainous, mostly two-lane roads with more trucks than I've ever seen on one road with an occasional car.  Peter, one of the house parents, was driving and I need not mention that he's made that trip many times over the 12 years he's been here so I just closed my eyes, and prayed.  The campus is really beautiful and built for efficiency as are all of the houses.  The next door neighbors are Korean and they only speak Korean and Spanish so conversations with them are short with lots of smiles and nods.  The children who live on campus are extremely courteous and well-behaved.  Judging from my first day here, I anticipate my stay here will be most enjoyable and hopefully, inspiring for us all.  We ask for your continued prayers as we work for God's glory.
Love you all,
Linda
